NEW YORK SESSION · NQ & GOLD

New York Session Trading

The New York session is where NQ and Gold do most of their deciding: the overnight range gets tested, one side gets swept, and the auction accepts or rejects the new prices. Trading it well means knowing what each part of the morning is for.

Why the morning has a shape

Asia and London build the overnight range. New York inherits it, along with the prior-day high, low and close, and does something with it. Because the same participants arrive at the same times with the same references, the session unfolds in recognisable stages. They are not rules, but they frame what to expect and, more importantly, what not to do too early.

AuraBot's three engines read the same session from different angles: Anchor Rails for location, SKELETON for direction and auction state, Black Book for execution permission. Here is the timeline in ET.

8:30 ET — data and pre-bias

Scheduled economic releases often land at 8:30 ET, and the reaction can move NQ and Gold out of the overnight range before the open. This is the framing window, not the trading window.

  • Anchor Rails has the overnight range, PDH, PDL and PDC mapped, and shows where price sits after any data move.
  • SKELETON reads the overnight structure: balanced, trending, or already displaced.
  • Black Book keeps execution permission off. Both instruments are typically in WAIT.

The #daily-market-brief in Discord posts combined NQ and Gold context around this stage: levels in play and scenarios worth watching.

9:30 ET — the open and the first sweep

The cash open brings the day's first real volume. A common pattern is an early push into one side of the overnight range, sweeping the high or low where stops have collected. On NQ the push is often sharp; on Gold it can be a probe rather than a drive.

  • Anchor Rails records the sweep and updates the destination. If the overnight high is taken, PDH becomes the next reference above.
  • SKELETON begins reading the response, but a few bars rarely contain enough evidence to call acceptance or rejection.
  • Black Book holds permission off. The state moves to WATCH when price is at a level that matters.

The sweep looks like a signal here. It is not. It is the market asking a question.

10:00 ET — the decision window

By around 10:00 ET the opening drive has usually reached a level and the auction has had time to react. Either price has pushed through and held, forming higher lows, or it has failed and closed back inside the range with displacement the other way.

  • SKELETON reads acceptance or rejection here from displacement, structure and the character of pullbacks. If the evidence is clear, a scenario is defined and the state moves to ARMED.
  • Anchor Rails sets the destination: back into the overnight range on rejection, or the next session level on acceptance.
  • Black Book evaluates execution context. If conditions permit an entry, the state moves to ACTIVE and members are notified, because execution permission has changed.

Doctrine

Knowing the destination is not the same as knowing the entry. The 9:30 sweep shows where price went. The 10:00 window shows what the market thinks of it. AuraBot changes execution permission on the second, never the first.

10:30 ET — follow-through or failure

Once a scenario is ACTIVE, the next half hour usually reveals whether it has follow-through. A rejection that keeps producing lower highs on the way back into the range is behaving as expected. One that stalls and reclaims the level is saying the evidence was thin.

  • SKELETON keeps reading structure. A structure failure against the scenario triggers INVALIDATED.
  • Anchor Rails tracks progress toward the destination and any new session highs or lows.
  • Black Book manages execution context. The state sits in MANAGING until COMPLETE or INVALIDATED.

11:30 ET — wind-down

Late morning volume thins and unresolved scenarios often drift. This is a stage for closing the book, not forcing a new setup. Each instrument typically returns to WAIT, and the session's states and transitions are retained in Aura's persistent storage for review.

Why AuraBot is built around this session

NQ and Gold do their heaviest deciding in New York morning hours, when the overnight range meets cash-session participation and scheduled data. These stages give the engines their cleanest evidence: obvious levels for Anchor Rails, legible acceptance or rejection for SKELETON, a defined window for Black Book. One session also keeps Discord honest: one persistent live message per instrument, updated as conditions materially change, with no alert stream through quiet hours.

London and Asia presets exist within the Battle Loadouts for members who trade those hours. New York is home. The doctrine, examples and daily brief are written for it.

Questions

Should I trade the 9:30 ET open on NQ?

The open is when the first sweep tends to happen, not when the auction has decided what it means. AuraBot typically moves to WATCH at the open and waits for acceptance or rejection before execution permission changes.

Is 10:00 ET a fixed entry time?

No. It is the window where the auction has usually had time to respond to the opening drive. The state changes when the evidence arrives, earlier or later on any given day.

Can I use AuraBot for London or Asia?

Session presets for London and Asia are included in the Battle Loadouts. The system, doctrine and daily brief are built for New York, where it is designed to be strongest.

Does AuraBot trade the session for me?

No. AuraBot reconciles the session into one live state per instrument. You execute on your own broker or funded platform and remain responsible for every entry and exit.
