How to Read the New York Session

The New York session on NQ and Gold has a rhythm: data at 8:30 ET, the cash open at 9:30, a second decision around 10:00, a settled story by 10:30 and a fade in participation toward 11:30. Reading it means knowing what to watch at each stage and what not to do.

Before 8:30 ET: build the map

Mark the overnight high and low, the prior-day high, low and close, and on Gold the Asia and London session extremes. Note where price is inside or outside yesterday's range. This is the destination map. Nothing on it is an entry.

8:30 ET: data and the first displacement

Scheduled economic releases often hit at 8:30. On data days this is where the first real displacement of the morning happens, frequently running one side of the overnight range before the equity market is even open.

Watch: which overnight extreme gets tested, and whether price accepts beyond it or snaps back. A rejection at 8:30 often defines the range the open will trade inside.

Mistake: trading the release itself. Spreads widen, fills are poor, and the auction has not decided anything yet.

9:30 ET: the cash open

US equities open and NQ participation jumps. The first minutes typically produce an opening drive in one direction. Gold reacts too, since the London / New York overlap is now fully active.

Watch: the direction of the opening drive relative to the overnight range and the prior close. Is price leaving the range or staying inside it? Which level is the drive heading toward?

Mistake: fading the opening drive because it looks extended. The drive is heading to a destination; whether it reverses is decided at that destination, not on the way.

10:00 ET: the second decision

Several economic reports print at 10:00, and even without one, the market tends to reassess here. The opening drive has usually reached a level by now. This is where sweeps of the overnight high or low most often resolve.

Watch: acceptance or rejection at whatever level the drive reached. A close back inside the range with displacement is rejection. A pullback that holds beyond the level is acceptance. This is the highest-information window of the morning.

Mistake: having already entered at 9:45 because price touched the level. By 10:00 the evidence arrives, and the early entry is either lucky or stopped.

10:30 ET: the story is usually set

By around 10:30 the auction has generally shown its hand. Either one side of the overnight range has been accepted and the session is trending, or both sides have been rejected and the session is ranging between them.

Watch: for continuation structure if a level was accepted, or for the opposite extreme to be targeted if it was rejected. Pullbacks that hold are the entries the doctrine allows. Pullbacks that fail are invalidation.

Mistake: flipping bias every candle. The story was set by evidence; it changes when the evidence changes, not when a single bar goes against you.

11:30 ET: participation fades

Late morning, volume thins and moves stall or drift. Levels get touched without displacement and sweeps lack follow-through. Many session traders stop taking new positions here and manage what they have.

Watch: whether the morning's move is holding or drifting back toward the open. Context for later, not an entry.

Mistake: forcing a trade to make up for a missed morning. The auction that made the morning's decisions has left the building.

Doctrine

Knowing the destination is not the same as knowing the entry. The map is built before 8:30. The entries are permitted only when the auction shows acceptance or rejection, which most often happens between 9:30 and 10:30.

How AuraBot maps onto this timeline

The #daily-market-brief in Discord publishes combined NQ and Gold morning context before the session: the levels, the overnight story, the scenarios worth watching. That is the map stage.

From the open forward, #nq-intelligence and #gold-intelligence each hold one persistent live message that updates as conditions materially change. As the 9:30 drive reaches a level, the state moves to WATCH. When SKELETON reads acceptance or rejection and Black Book confirms execution conditions, it moves toward ARMED and ACTIVE. As the move plays out or fails, it moves to MANAGING and then COMPLETE or INVALIDATED. Separate notifications arrive only for meaningful decision changes or execution-critical events, not as a stream of alerts.

The Hologram Candle projection draws a structural scenario path forward from the live structure and session inputs. Projection, not prediction: it is a scenario to test against the 10:00 evidence, not a forecast to trade.

Questions

Is Gold on the same schedule as NQ?

Close to it. Gold responds to the 8:30 data and the 9:30 equity open, and the London / New York overlap makes the same 9:30 to 10:30 window its most decisive. Gold's map also includes the London session high and low.

What if nothing resolves by 10:30?

Then the session is undecided and the state stays in WATCH or WAIT. An undecided auction is a valid read. It means no permission, not a missed trade.
